Melbourne’s Amelia Pittock has fallen just short in her bid for her first title of the year, going down to top seed Line Hansen of Denmark in the final of the Southport Open in Connecticut.
Pittock, who had a gruelling five-game semi-final win over Egyptian Salma Nassar, lost to Hansen in four games 11-6, 7-11, 11-6, 11-5.
Pittock had earlier beaten Brazil’s Thaisa Serafini in the quarter-finals 11-7, 11-3, 13-11 before downing Nassar 7-11, 11-13, 11-5, 11-9, 11-8 in the final four.
