New South Wales’s Donna Urquhart (pictured) has risen one position to make it three Australians in the top 20 in both the latest men’s and women’s world squash rankings.
The 23-year-old from Yamba on the NSW North Coast qualified for the main draw of major tournaments in Chennai and Kuala Lumpur in March which enabled her to join fellow NSW player Kasey Brown (10) and Queenslander Rachael Grinham (5) in the top 20.
North Queensland’s Lisa Camilleri was the next best Aussie at 39, while Melbourne’s Melody Francis was up one place to a career-best 57.
Malaysia’s Nicol David, who won at both Chennai and Kuala Lumpur, kept her mortgage on the number one ranking ahead of new number two Jenny Duncalf of England, Australian-born Dutchwoman Natalie Grinham and England’s Alison Waters.
David has now been number one for 45 consecutive weeks, passing Australian great Michelle Martin who spent 44 straight weeks at the top.
In the men’s rankings Lithgow’s David Palmer stayed in the top 10 after slipping one place from number nine.
Yamba’s Cameron Pilley was at 15 with Canberra’s Stewart Boswell the third Australian in the top 20 at 18.
Ryan Cuskelly, from Evans Head in northern New South Wales, jumped two positions to 44 and is now just one spot behind Hobart’s Aaron Frankcomb as Australian number four.
