Australians Kasey Brown and Rachael Grinham progressed to the quarter-finals of the CIMB Singapore Masters squash tournament after winning their opening round matches on Wednesday night.
Second seeded Grinham cruised past Singapore wildcard Pamela Chua 11-3, 11-2, 11-2 while Brown saw off Kiwi number two Jaclyn Hawkes 11-3, 12-14, 11-6, 11-7.
Donna Urquhart just failed in her bid to pull off an upset, going down to eighth seeded Frenchwoman Camille Serme in five games 11-7, 11-3, 6-11, 10-12, 11-8.
Brown said she felt in control for most of her match with Hawkes.
“I started off strongly but went down quickly in the second due to Jackie's tight length,” Brown said.
“I went down 2-8, however I made a comeback to get a game ball at 10-9 but lost the game in a tie break.
“I then played well to take the third and fourth games quite comfortably.”
Brown now takes on world number one Nicol David after the Malaysian beat Raneem El Weleily of Egypt 8-11, 11-5, 11-7, 11-4.
Grinham will play Natalie Grainger of the US in a battle of former world number ones.
