Camilleri stuns Stoehr in Hong Kong

- Squash Australia

North Queensland’s Lisa Camilleri caused the only upset of the first round of the Hong Kong Open squash tournament when she downed 14th seeded Frenchwoman Isabelle Stoehr in the first round on Wednesday night.
The 27-year-old from Tully recovered from a game down to beat world number 19 Stoehr 8-11, 11-5, 11-4, 7-11, 11-4.
“I'd never played Isa before, but I did a bit of training with her in Melbourne last week,” Camilleri said.
“She has such good racket skills, if I left anything short I was in trouble, but when I managed to get my length working I felt more in control.
"I haven't even looked to see who I play next - this is definitely my best win ever.”
Camilleri actually faces seventh seeded Englishwoman Laura Massaro, who beat Hong Kong’s Joey Chan 11-8, 11-7, 6-11, 11-8.
It was a good day for the Australian women, with Rachael Grinham, Kasey Brown and Donna Urquhart all progressing.
Grinham beat Malaysia’s Delia Arnold 11-3, 11-5, 11-3 and will now play France’s Camille Serme while doubles partners Brown and Urquhart clash following their wins.
Brown beat Song Sun-Mi of South Korea 11-6, 11-2, 11-2 and Urquhart was too strong for Denmark’s Line Hansen 11-9, 11-7, 11-7.
In the men’s draw two Australians won through to the second round and two lost their opening matches.
Tenth seed David Palmer beat Finland’s Olli Tuominen 11-2, 11-5, 11-4 and will now play Frenchman Thierry Lincou while 16th seed Cameron Pilley had a good win over Ong Beng Hee of Malaysia 11-8, 11-7, 14-12 to set up a clash with Egypt’s Karim Darwish, who ended Tasmanian qualifier Aaron Frankcomb’s tournament 11-6, 11-3, 11-3.
Fellow qualifier Ryan Cuskelly found the going too tough against Gregory Gaultier, the Frenchman winning 11-8, 11-3, 11-6.
