Alexander downs Canadian in first round

Top seed Zac Alexander downed local favourite Fred Reid in straight games to cruise into the quarter-finals of the Goodlife Open in Ottawa on Thursday.
Alexander was untroubled as he disposed of Reid 11-6, 11-9, 11-5 to set up a quarter-final clash against Frenchman Lucas Serme, who had to battle past Canada’s Thomas Brinkman 11-5, 11-4, 10-12, 11-5.
Meanwhile, Sydney’s Scott Arnold bowed out in the first round at the hands of Austria’s Aqeel Rehman 6-11, 11-3, 11-8, 11-9.
