Palmer back into top 10

-

Australia’s David Palmer wrote yet another chapter in his astonishing career when he crept back into the top 10 on the latest rankings issued by the Professional Squash Association.
The 35-year-old from Lithgow spent an incredible 100 consecutive months in the top 10 before slipping out of the elite group in December last year.
However, he has been hovering at number 11 for the past four months and moved up a spot when Azlan Iskandar dropped two places after failing to defend his Malaysian Open title.
Ironically Iskandar is Palmer’s first round opponent in next week’s Australian Open.
Palmer’s fellow New South Welshman Cameron Pilley climbed three places to 14 after he reached the semi-finals at the Malaysian Open.
England’s Nick Matthew stayed at number one with Egyptian pair Ramy Ashour and Karim Darwish at two and three, reflecting their seedings in Canberra next week.
Melbourne’s Melody Francis continued her rapid rise when she jumped four places to 40 on the Women’s International Squash Players Association rankings.
Rachael Grinham was the top ranked Australian despite slipping a spot to four, ahead of Kasey Brown (6), Donna Urquhart (14) and Lisa Camilleri (33).
Malaysia’s Nicol David remained at number one in the world ahead of Englishwoman Jenny Duncalf and recently crowned Malaysian Open champion Madeline Perry of Ireland.
