Process Overview

  1. Squash Australia committed to a Governance Review through its 2011 Annual General Meeting.
  2. With the financial and organisational support of the Australian Sports Commission a review process was established and a reviewer put in place.
  3. This lead to submissions being called from the Squash and wider community in September 2012.
  4. The appointed reviewers (exSport) produced and submitted their report Strengthening Squash Australia(linked below) to the Squash Australia Board late in 2012.
  5. The Squash Australia Board accepted the Report and endorsed all fourteen recommendations to the Members for their consideration in early 2013.
  6. A National Governance Workshop was held March 2013 to facilitate the members consideration of the Review recommendations.
  7. The Workshop outcomes based on the review recommendations were considered for progression by the Board and the Members, with priority given to a number of changes to the existing Squash Australia Articles and the drafting of a Squash Australia Constitution to replace the existing Squash Australia Articles & Memorandum of Association.
  8. The Squash Australia Articles were amended at a General Meeting August 2013 in Brisbane where a working group was formed to develop the Squash Australia Constitution, comprising Carol Kawaljenko, Peta Murphy and Bob McComas.
  9. The Squash Australia Board resolved several Committee Terms of Reference and approved the Squash Australia Governance Policies Procedures document at its October 2013 Board meeting.
  10. Parameters on the draft Constitution were to be discussed at a November 2013 President's Council, which did not progress due to only four members being able to attend.
  11. The first draft Squash Australia Constitution was brought to the Members for discussion at a National Workshop and General Meeting in February 2014.
  12. With member input both at and following the February 2014 National Workshop and General Meeting subsequent drafts 2 and 3 were produced. Draft 3 being put to the members and falling short of the required 75% majority to approve at a Squash Australia General Meeting May 2014.
