We only have 1 more week to get everyone registered, there will not be another opportunity to volunteer to be a sport specific volunteer!

Volunteers need:

  • be aged 16 or over at point of application
  • be able to speak and read English or are an Australian Sign Language (AUSLAN) user;
  • be available between the 4th and 15th April 2018;
  • be able to come to Gold Coast for a friendly, informal selection event;
  • be able to attend and meet the cost of travelling to the Gold Coast for up to 4 days of training from November 2017
  • be able to attend an appointment at our Uniform and Accreditation Centre (UAC) on the Gold Coast to collect your uniform and official pass from January 2018
  • agree to a background security check.

 

DATES - The Commonwealth Games will open on April 4, 2018 and conclude on April 15 . The Squash competition runs from April 4 to April 15. During the games, you will need to be available for shifts for the duration of the Games. Consideration will be made for events which you have bought tickets too and shofts will be given accordingly.

LOCATION - The squash competition will be held at OXENFORD STUDIOS- The existing sound stages of the Village Roadshow complex at Oxenford will play host to the sports of Boxing and Table Tennis. These venues are being enhanced to provide for the International Sporting Federations technical venue requirements.

COSTS & BENEFITS - All travel and accommodation costs will be at the expense of the Volunteer. However, public transport in and around the Gold Coast and Brisbane will be free for Volunteers during Games time. All volunteers will receive a uniform kit, meals if required during a rostered shift, and the experience of a lifetime.

HOW THE PROCESS WORKS - By completing an expression of interest application you will be considered for pre-approval for a role within the squash events. Successful applicants will be informed in early 2017 and will be given a link to the official Gold Coast portal to complete their application. If you miss out on a squash role you will be able to apply for general roles directly to Gold Coast Commonwealth Games volunteers portal in February 2017. This is your only chance to be pre-approved for a specific role with Squash. Once we have reviewed all of the applications we will let you know whether you have been pre-approved or not and will provide you with the relevant links to continue on your volunteering journey.

VOLUNTEERING ROLES AVAILABLE ROLES:

  • Referees: Only referees with a National Accreditation or higher will be considered for the roles of Refereeing at the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
  • Court-side events team: this role includes performing duties such as marshalling athletes, checking accreditation, assisting athletes, and escorting teams and ensuring courts are in pristine condition, seat ushers and crowd controlling.
