Australia’s Donna Urquhart has run herself into some of her best form of recent times, but has fallen just short of breaking through for another World Tour title in Texas this morning.

30-year-old Urquhart pulled off a stunning hard-fought win over top seed, New Zealand’s Joelle King, in Sunday’s semi-final, but lost out in the final to another left-hander, Hong Kong’s Annie Au, 6-11, 11-7, 5-11, 11-5, 8-11.

It took Au, the tournament second seed, just over one hour to finally wear down the Australian third seed.

Urquhart’s win over world number 11 King ended a long run of defeats at the hand of the New Zealander, and was her biggest scalp on the World Tour for 12 months.

Urquhart is currently ranked number 18 in the world, and will head into this month’s British Open, a World Series event, with confidence.

She is currently drawn to play world number seven, Malaysia’s Nicol David, in the first round.
